Government allocates funds for Kakamega airstrip road

The government has finally allocated funds towards tarmacking of the Kakamega Airstrip-Shinyalu-Chepsonoi road.

Construction of the road, which is the shortest route between Kakamega town and Kapsabet in Nandi county, will commence in the current financial year.

The move followed intense lobbying by Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana and his Ikolomani counterpart Bernard Shinali.

Ikana said yesterday that an initial sum of Sh1 billion would be released to start the construction works from Kakamega Airstrip.

He said the over 21-kilometre road would greatly spur economic growth of Kakamega town and his Constituency through mainly reduced transport costs and tourism.

“This is the easiest and shortest route to Nairobi through the Kakamega Forest all the way to Nandi county. It will, thus, be a major catalyst for development once complete,” he added.
