Goons disrupt Kalonzo’s speech during Azimio presser

By , July 17, 2024

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was forced to end his speech prematurely after a group of goons stormed the venue forcing Azimio la Umoja leaders to scamper for safety.

The incident happened minutes after Kalonzo had started addressing Azimio members and reading out the resolutions of their Parliamentary Group meeting which was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Kalonzo had barely read out the joint Parliamentary Group meeting resolutions when the rowdy and charged goons stormed the venue and ordered everyone to vacate.

“People should go outside! everybody out! the meeting is over! Media people, also leave the meeting is over,” some of the goons were heard shouting amidst commotion.

The presser was staged at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation.

Some of the goons were seen holding the chairs while directing the Azimio lawmakers to leave the venue.

Azimio Leader Raila Odinga was not present during the commotion as he had left earlier for an urgent meeting.

“Our Party leader Raila Amollo Odinga had to leave for an urgent meeting and he has asked us to make this statement,” Kalonzo announced before the meeting was disrupted.

Before Kalonzo started addressing the press, Azimio leaders had been holed up in the venue for quite some time. It is not clear why they did not issue their Parliamentary Group resolution before Raila left.

Leaders who were present at the time of the incident included former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi among others.

Azimio on rift

This comes even as different Azimio leaders have been speaking different languages on several issues bedevilling the country at the moment.

Kalonzo is opposed to the calls for dialogue while Raila Odinga had asked the country to give talks a chance, before changing his mind.

Other Azimio leaders including Narc- Kenya’s Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have been reading different scripts.

However, the leaders were expected to issue a statement on the way forward before the goons disrupted their presser.
