Gladys Wanga pledges to clear pending bills in Homa Bay County
Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has pledged to clear pending bills in the government of the devolved unit.
Wanga appeared before the Senate’s County Public Accounts Committee, led by Senator Moses Kajwang of Homa Bay County, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, regarding the implementation of the Auditor-General’s Report on the Financial Statements of the County Executive of Homa Bay for the Financial Year 2023/2024.
Taking to X after the exercise, Wanga maintained that Homa Bay County leadership will be firm on protecting public resources at the county level.
”This included our clear strategy for resolving historical pending bills and effectively managing our human resource systems.”
“We also reviewed the Auditor General’s Report on the Financial Statements of the Receiver of Revenue for the County Executive of Homa Bay for the same financial year. We stand firm in our commitment to safeguarding public finances through prudent and efficient spending, ensuring we meet the aspirations of our people,” Wanga said.
Meanwhile, Gladys Wanga’s pledge to safeguard public resources comes at a time when former and acting county bosses have been put in the spotlight over the misuse of public funds. To curb the menace, Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Ekuru Aukot recently suggested that leaders caught in the public resources embezzlement in the Auditor General’s report should be arrested and charged.

Speaking on a local TV station on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Aukot argued that it would be meaningless if public servants are caught up in graft and allowed to walk away unscathed.
Aukot has spoken when former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and his Bomet counterpart, Hillary Barchok, have become the latest top leaders to be implicated in graft cases. Ekuru Aukot’s sentiments also come at the time when the Controller of Budget, Margaret Nyakang’o, also released a report that laid bare public funds usage in public institutions, especially at the State House, Nairobi.
”If I were the President of this country, I would just pick the Auditor General’s report. I work with accountants in my line of work.
“When we read the Auditor General’s report, the findings of the report expose leaders who have stolen public funds. Unless they are arrested and charged, we cannot achieve equality as a country. We are lacking vision in the kind of leadership we have in Kenya,” Aukot said.
