Gatundu North residents up in arms over deplorable roads state

By , November 17, 2023

Residents of Gatundu North yesterday disrupted business as they protested the poor state of the Marigi-Kandakomu Road.

Construction work on the road started three years ago but only excavation works were done before the contractor left the site.

The 22-kilometre stretch was part of the roads in the constituency under the 540-km Mau Mau Road project, which was to cover four Mt Kenya counties.

Locals barricaded the road while others resolved to repair a section using quarry materials they obtained after fundraising.

“The state of this road is a total shame for Kenya. We pay taxes to have our lives improved but the outcome of our toil is this terrible road. I have not been sleeping as boda boda operators have rerouted to my home to get to their destinations. The noise of boda bodas is too much for me,” said Josephine Wanjiru, an elderly woman.
