Even with just three rounds of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) played, 2019 runners up Gaspo Women find themselves in unfamiliar territory at seventh place in the eight-team Zone A log.

Edward Githua’s charges have lost their only two matches of the season, first against former champions Thika Queens and second a shocking 5-1 defeat to Kayole Starlets last Sunday.

The side is set to play their third match of the season today against Zetech Sparks at Ruiru grounds.

A win will see them make a slight movement to sixth place at three points. A draw will give them a better goal difference than Zetech, who are currently sixth at a minus-one goal difference.

On their part,  Zetech are equally hunting for a first win after falling 2-1 to Thika Queens in their first match of the season played on Saturday.

A win for the varsity side will not change their positioning on the log,  but will give them the momentum to fight for a place in the playoffs.

Zone A is led by former champions Thika at nine points from three wins in as many matches while Kayole’s huge win against Gaspo took them to second place at six points in three matches.

Ulinzi Starlets are third at six points but with an inferior goal difference of five against Kayole’s six.

Makolanders, fourth on the log, picked their first win over the weekend in a 1-0 outcome against bottom placed Mathare.

The win gives them four points in three matches, having picked a one-all draw against Kibera Soccer but lost to Kayole.

Kibera are separated from Makolanders at fifth place by goal difference. After falling 5-1 to Ulinzi,  their first loss of the season,  the side is at four points but with -2 goal difference.
