Residents of Ganze in Kilifi county have now threatened to kill marauding jumbos that have been terrorizing them and destroying their crops.

The residents led by their area MP Kenneth Kazungu, said that the community, have persevered for long but can’t take it anymore.

The MP said locals had planted a bit of their acreage on maize after the rains but has all been destroyed by the rogue elephants who migrated from Tsavo East National Park to the villages.

“We had good rains this season and everyone went to the farm to plant maize to boost food security. Unfortunately, the herds of over 300 elephants that have never been seen in this region descended on our maize farms, flattening them,” he said.

Kazungu said as leaders, they have pushed for enhanced patrols but nothing was forthcoming. Speaking during a relief food distribution program in Magarini and Ganze constituency, Cabinet Secretary for Gender Aisha Jumwa promised to follow up on compensation issue.
