Gachagua writes to IG Kanja, demands action on goonism and violence targeting him
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja over renewed attacks and increased violence targeting him by hired goons.
In a letter dated Monday, December 1, 2025, Gachagua decried that the goonism culture was taking root in the country, days after his latest political rally in Kariobangi North was disrupted.
Gachagua has raised an alarm that the increased cases of political violence are taking the country down to a dangerous state of anarchy and statelessness.

In a scathing attack, Gachagua fingered the IG for the police’s repeated inactions on cases of attacks and violence meted out at his people and entourage, terming the police under Kanja’s leadership as the weakest link in stopping political violence and goonism in Kenya.
Politicians coordinating police
The DCP leader claimed that despite being the one commanding the police, Kanja has surrendered his responsibility to politicians close to President Ruto, leaving the opposition exposed and in danger.
He added that the politicians had since taken over the operations of the police and were the ones coordinating and commanding the movement and actions of the goons and the police in civilians.

In a call to action, the DCP leader has challenged the police boss to crack the whip and deal with all the past cases where his rallies were violently disrupted.
He singled out the attacks in November 2024 in Limuru and Shamata, Limuru, Kiambu County.
He also pointed out the six incidences in 2025 where his entourage was targeted by violence, including the skirmishes on December 24, where he claims he was harassed by sleuths from the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and the recent attacks in the PCEA Kariobangi North church.
The correspondence is the second that the former DP has addressed to the IG after a similar one on November 12, 2025.
Time for action
In the letter the ex-DP demanded police action after a video of a group of individuals threatening him went viral on social media.
The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party boss named the individuals and claimed that they were connected to a local governor and had been hired to frustrate his campaigns in Mbeere North.
The politician later made his trip to campaign in Mbeere North with no security lapses reported.
