Gachagua urged to tone down insults as Mathira MP calls for politics of tolerance
Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Eric Wamumbi has called on the DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua to tone down political insults, saying abusive language will not win votes and only derail the development agenda for the people.
Speaking in Mathira ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to the region, Wamumbi emphasised that the politics of insults must give way to the politics of tolerance and development.
He warned against dragging families, especially women, into political battles, noting that such attacks are unnecessary and unproductive.

I want to request the DCP leader to tone down the insults because they are too much. Insults will not get any votes,” Wamumbi said.
He called on Gachagua to stop name-calling and insulting his wife, Betty Maina, who is the Woman Representative of Murang’a County, for distributing beans, saying even his wife was at one time distributing the same.
“Stop insulting my wife and your wife, Pastor Dorcas, for distributing beans. Our wives have boiled beans for us at one time, and you and I have consumed the beans,” he said.
He said there is no need for leaders to call people names and drag their wives into politics, but instead they should focus on doing politics of development as men.
The legislator said leaders should compete by delivering tangible projects to the people rather than engaging in verbal attacks.
Wamumbi reaffirmed his loyalty to President Ruto, saying the Head of State has consistently supported him in delivering development to the people of Mathira and the larger Nyeri region.
The reason I will stick with President Ruto is because he is supporting me to deliver to the people who elected me. Everything we ask of him, he gives,” he said.
He announced that President Ruto will visit the region for two days, on Sunday and Monday, to attend church service and inspect several development projects, including an affordable housing project of 680 units costing Sh1.6 billion, to ensure it meets the required standards.
According to the MP, the President will arrive in Nyeri on Sunday and attend a church service at ACK Kariki Parish in Othaya, where he will also open a commercial building he helped construct in 2019 when he served as Deputy President.
Ruto’s NYOTA fund launch
On Monday morning, President Ruto is expected to launch the NYOTA project at Kabiru-ini grounds, a youth empowerment initiative that will involve 70 youths per ward across all Central region counties.

Later in the day, he will officially open Nyamachaki Primary School before proceeding to Karatina to inspect ongoing affordable housing and market projects.
The President will then continue to Nanyuki on Tuesday, with Wamumbi expressing optimism that he will come bearing more goodies for the region.
Wamumbi urged residents and leaders alike to maintain peace and respect during the visit, stressing that there will be no chaos in Nyeri County.
We must accord the President total respect. There will be no stone-throwing in this county. Everybody is allowed to come and sell their manifesto,” he said. “We are doing politics of tolerance. Everyone is welcome to bring their preferred leaders and sell their agendas.”
He reiterated that unity and development-focused leadership are the only ways to address the challenges facing the people.
Insults will not sort out our issues. But if we work and deliver to the people who elected us, we will solve the challenges they are facing,” Wamumbi said.
