Gachagua rebukes Mt Kenya MPs for allowing themselves to be misused by Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out guns blazing against elected leaders from the Mount Kenya region, accusing them of betrayal and blind loyalty to President William Ruto at the expense of their own people.
Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Gatumbi Church in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, a visibly agitated Gachagua castigated the MPs for allowing themselves to be misused and for contributing to the suffering of the youth in the region.
According to Gachagua, when President Ruto creates opportunities for youth from his own community, sending them abroad and securing them jobs in government agencies, youth from Mt Kenya are instead paid to engage in violence and chaos.
He expressed deep frustration at the MPs who facilitate this, stating they are the reason the region’s youth remain impoverished and directionless.
“Nyinyi wabunge, huyu Ruto vijana wa jamii yake anawapeleka Australia, wengine jeshi, wengine KRA. Vijana yetu anawapatia pesa mwapatie watupe mawe. Nyinyi ni wajinga kiasi gani, how foolish are you?” Gachagua said.
He went ahead to say that Ruto laughs at Mt Kenya MPs behind their backs after using them for political errands.
According to Gachagua, while youth from Ruto’s region flourish in meaningful opportunities, those from Mt Kenya are reduced to tools of violence by their own elected leaders, who act at the behest of the State House.
Taking aim at the MPs’ failure to stand up for their community, Gachagua warned that history would not be kind to them. He said their names would be remembered not for leadership but for their shameful submission and betrayal of the region’s dignity.
“When the history of this region is written, the MPs from this community will have a whole chapter as the most foolish leaders ever elected in the Mt Kenya region,” he declared.
He further criticised the MPs for blindly supporting every directive from the president without question.
Gachagua said that their loyalty was not to the people who elected them but to power and money, branding them an embarrassment.
“William Ruto akiwaambia kwendeni mpitishe Finance Bill mnaenda, mnapitisha. Akiwaambia ni mbaya, mnasema ‘Yes, Sir’. Akiwaambia endeni mfukuze Deputy President mnaenda mnafukuza. You are an embarrassment to the people of this region,” he added.
Church disruptions
Gachagua also condemned recent incidents where youths paid by politicians disrupted church services. He said that it was shameful for leaders to stoop so low, questioning how anyone with integrity could accept money to defile sacred spaces.

He concluded by warning the MPs that their actions will eventually catch up with them. He said the people of Mt Kenya are watching, and a time will come when they will respond to the betrayal.
