Gachagua promises to rebuild Kenya to Kibaki’s standards if elected president
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to restore the country to where the late former President Mwai Kibaki left it if elected president.
While speaking during a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, September 14, 2025, he told the congregants that he had gone back to his region to seek blessings before going out to traverse the nation in search of the presidency.
“I came home yesterday to ask for blessings before I begin this journey. As I started this journey, I needed blessings from home,” he said.
He told the congregants that should he be elected president in 2027, he would not overpromise Kenyans on what he intends to deliver, since the economy, according to the former DP, is performing poorly, with the debt now capped at Ksh12 trillion.
He further stated that the only thing he would do for Kenya is to restore the country to where the late President Mwai Kibaki left it in 2013.
He also added that he would restore the healthcare system, with his administration ensuring that hospitals are well stocked with drugs and that the medical insurance scheme is functional.
“I don’t want to promise the country lies that I will build roads, dams, or electricity projects if Kenyans elect me as president. I don’t want to promise lies to the people of Kenya.”
“I only want to restore the Kenyan state to where Mwai Kibaki left us, and a few things we want to do include restoring the healthcare system so that when we go to hospitals, there are drugs, and restoring the education system with the free education that Kibaki left,” he said.
He also pledged to restore the dignity of the payslip, stating that Kenyan employees currently have no purchasing power as their payslips are heavily taxed.
“Rigathi Gachagua wants to restore the dignity of the payslip. Most Kenyans have had their payslips raided, leaving them with no purchasing power,” he added.
