Gachagua moves to cool down Malala following Mukhisa Kituyi’s appointment uproar
By Mabonga Makhanu, September 7, 2025Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out to clap back at his deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, who came out to protest over the selection of former UNCTAD Chair Mukhisa Kituyi as the United Opposition’s spokesman.
While speaking during a church service in Nyandarua on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Gachagua defended Mukhisa Kituyi’s selection while at the same time acknowledging Malala’s worries and demands, who had wanted the slot to be given to a person who is young.
He stated that the coalition secretariat is filled with young people who are doing an excellent job and that they, as a coalition that values the input of the younger generation, have decided to also include a person from the older generation, such as Mukhisa, who has vast political experience, to aid the younger ones in shaping the coalition.

Hapana,” Gachagua stated.
While complimenting him for the role he plays in the party, Gachagua stated that Malala is highly obsessed with young people being in positions of leadership, and even in their DCP party, he has installed many Gen Zs, and they are the ones running the party, something that, according to Gachagua, is commendable.
Mukhisa’s input
He also stated that he has taken time to speak to Malala, telling him not to be worried about Mukhisa’s appointment as the coalition’s spokesman, saying that despite the coalition being indeed for the input of the youth, they also require the experience of the older generation who have been in politics for a long time.

He went ahead to dismiss fallout speculations, saying that despite this, as a party and as a coalition, they are all speaking one language.
This follows an outburst by Malala, who protested the appointment of Mukhisa recent appointment.
