Mukhisa Kituyi appointed as United Opposition’s spokesman
Former UNCTAD Chair Mukhisa Kituyi has been appointed as the opposition’s spokesperson and head of the opposition secretariat.
In a statement released by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, following an indoor meeting where the united opposition held consultative talks, they announced Mukhisa as their team’s spokesman.

“The United Opposition has appointed Hon. Dr Mukhisa Kituyi as its spokesperson and the head of the opposition secretariat,” Gachagua said.
His political life
Mukhisa Kituyi has had a long day in politics; born on the slopes of Mt Elgon in Chwele, Kibichori, he was a vibrant politician back then while still a university student and even participated in the second liberation, coming face to face with the wrath of the Moi regime, with him even facing arrests at some point.
He served as Kimilili MP till 2007, when he was ousted by former Tongaren MP Simiyu Eseli, before the Kimilili constituency could be divided into 2, Kimilili and Tongaren constituencies.
In 2013, the politician tried contesting for the senatorial seat under Musalia Mudavadi’s lead UDF, where he unsuccessfully contested, coming third after the National Assembly defeated both him and Musiakari Kombo.
He was later appointed as UNCTAD chair, serving until 2020, when he came back announcing that he would be vying for the presidency, with him being given a heroic welcome as he made his way to his home in Mbakalo, but later on he became silent on his bid after photos of him being in a compromising situation went round, something that he himself later came out to deny.
In 2022 he was involved actively in the Azimio campaigns; he was forever in the campaign with him enticing Azimio supporters with songs mocking their Kenya Kwanza counterparts, but after Azimio lost, he was left in the political cold until recently when he entered the United Opposition, with him being seen with the team for the first time during the launch of Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party, an event that was attended by all the opposition leaders allied to Martha Karua.
