Gachagua mourns death of Agnes Kagure’s mother Mary Wangui Mwangi
By Mustafa Juma, June 6, 2026Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed sorrow following the death of Mama Mary Wangui Mwangi, the mother of businesswoman and political figure Agnes Kagure.
In a condolence message shared via his official X account on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Gachagua described Mama Mary as a devoted matriarch who played a key role in her family and community, noting her commitment to education, faith, and social development.
“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the demise of Mama Mary Wangui Mwangi, mother of Ms Agnes Kagure,” Gachagua stated.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader eulogised the late Mama Mary as a loving and principled woman who contributed to the wellbeing of the communities she lived in, particularly through her dedication to church activities and support for education.
“Mama Mary was a loving matriarch and a committed member of the communities she lived in. She believed in education and a better society for all Kenyans,” Gachagua said.
He further noted that her legacy of service to her family and faith would remain a lasting memory to those who knew her.
“Her service to her family and church remains strong even on her demise,” he added.
The former deputy president extended his condolences to Kagure and her family, offering words of comfort during the period of mourning.
“My deepest sympathies to Ms. Agnes Kagure and her family at this painful moment of grief,” he said.
“Mama Mary rest in eternal peace and may God grant her His Mercy and everlasting life.”
Mama Mary Wangui Mwangi’s death
Kagure announced the death of her mother in a statement shared via her official Facebook account on Saturday, June 5, 2026.
“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved mother, friend, and mentor,” Kagure stated.
Without revealing the cause of her death, Kagure described her mother as a woman of great strength, faith, wisdom, and love whose presence shaped her life and many others’ in countless ways.
“She was a woman of great strength, faith, wisdom, and love whose presence shaped my life and many others’ in countless ways. Her prayers, guidance, and sacrifices will forever remain part of who I am. As a family, we ask for your prayers, comfort, and privacy during this difficult time. Rest in power, my role model,” she stated.
The family has not yet announced burial arrangements.
