Gachagua issues demand to Ruto hours before his Mt Kenya tour

As the clock ticks before President William Ruto commences his highly anticipated Mt Kenya tour, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wants Ruto to be accountable to the electorate.
Speaking in Redhill, Kiambu County, on Monday, March 31, 2025, Gachagua asked the head of state to be truthful and reveal complete projects he had implemented in Mt Kenya region since taking over the instruments of power from his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
While demanding accountability from his former boss, Gachagua claimed that most of the projects in the region were launched by the previous administration.
“Si mumeskia rais anakuja hapa, anakuja uongo. Sisi tunataka kuambia William Ruto, wewe unakuja hapa Mlima Kenya ukuwe mtu wa kuongea ukweli,” Gachagua stated.
“Project zile zote amabazo ziko hapa ni zile zilianaishwa na rais Uhuru Kenyatta. Hakuna project ata moja yako. Kwa ivo, ukija useme project umefanya ni gani. Zile project ziko ni za Uhuru Kenyatta umekataa kumaliza lakini usikuje kudanganya watu wa Mlima Kenya,” he added.
Which loosely translates to: “You have heard the president is coming here, he is coming with lies. We want to tell the president that he should be truthful when you come here in Mt Kenya.”
“All the projects here were launched by Uhuru Kenyatta there is no even one of his projects. Therefore, when you come, tell us which projects you have done. Projects here were started by Uhuru Kenyatta and you have refused to complete them, but do not come and lie to Mt Kenya people,” Gachagua added.

Collect money
The latest sentiments came days after he asked Mt Kenya residents to prepare for money collection ahead of Ruto’s visit. Gachagua claimed that sacks of money had been prepared ahead of the tour and advised the people not to accept anything less than Ksh3,000.
However, he warned them against taking the mobilisation money home, insisting that it was cursed.
“Don’t worry. Get ready, money is coming in bags. Take it, but don’t go home with it; it is cursed. Eat that money at the market. Do not mix it with the money you already have. If you have a loan with a shylock, use that money to pay it off,” he said.

Mt Kenya tour
Ruto is expected to start his Mt Kenya tour on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, almost six months after parting ways with Gachagua, who was impeached by the National Assembly and charges upheld by the Senate.
Ruto is expected to launch various projects in the vast Mt Kenya region while accompanied by some of his key allies from the region.
To prepare the ground, his loyal lieutenants embarked on the mobilisation exercise, with the lawmakers urging residents to receive the head of state.
Some erected billboards to set the ground running ahead of the tour.
