Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted a farewell dinner on August 4, 2025, with leaders of the Abagusii community living and working in Texas, marking the final leg of his visit to the state.

Accompanied by his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, Gachagua was warmly received throughout his stay in Texas, where he met with Kenyans to discuss national issues and the role of the diaspora in shaping the country’s future.

Gachagua thanked the Abagusii community for their warm hospitality and openness to dialogue on important matters affecting Kenya.

“Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness to the Leaders of the Abagusii community living and working in Texas. In the state of Texas,” Gachagua took to his X account on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. “On behalf of the Abagusii community, you hosted me for a farewell dinner on my last day in Texas. During the dinner, we discussed the State of our Nation, Kenya, and the journey to liberate our Nation from dictatorship, state capture, economic mismanagement, and abuse of the rule of law.”

Gachagua’s multi-state diaspora tour

The dinner capped off a packed schedule that has seen Gachagua traverse several U.S. states since his arrival on July 9. His engagements have included town hall meetings, community gatherings, and private discussions with key diaspora stakeholders.

The leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has used the trip, his first since being removed from office in October 2024, to rally support from Kenyans abroad, particularly around national reform, civic education, and the protection of democratic values.

Earlier during the trip, Gachagua met with members of the Abagusii community in Seattle, where he said he was encouraged by their understanding of Kenya’s current challenges and their commitment to positive change.

“It’s motivating to see our community members come together with concern, hope, and a shared desire to contribute to a better future,” he said during the Seattle meeting.

In Texas, Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas were welcomed with traditional dances and great enthusiasm at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on August 1. The couple was later driven to a local ranch marked with a “Karibu Wamunyoro Texas” sign.
