Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has decried the prevalent cases of insecurity in the country following the recent murder of Nairobi lawyer Kyallo Mbobu, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Karen, Nairobi.

Speaking in Nyeri County on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Gachagua attributed the rising cases of insecurity to the gangs that were used to do politics.

Gachagua, who on Saturday, September 13, restated his bid for the country’s presidency, pledged to redress the rampant insecurity and restore normalcy.

Malala had earlier blamed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen for the rise in insecurity cases in Nairobi.

Professional killers

“We now have gangs with knives robbing people in broad daylight. The gangs were used to doing politics, and now that the politics are over, they have to make a living and are now terrorising Kenyans. Those gangs will be dismantled, and security restored,” he posited.

“You saw a few days ago, a lawyer, my neighbour in Karen, was shot eight times by professional killers. People are so scared in the country. You don’t know who has been paid to assassinate you. The motorbikes are now worrisome. You shiver every time a motorbike follows your car,” he stated.

“Those were professional, not ordinary people. They shot him in the head to ensure that he would not survive,” he added.
