Gachagua dispels rumours on looming cracks in Kenya Kwanza
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has maintained that his relationship with President William Ruto was tied by an unbreakable bond.
Speaking during the Outspan Medical college graduation ceremony in Nyeri County on Saturday, November 19, 2022, the country’s second-in-command dispelled the rumours that there were looming cracks within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He likened the Kenya Kwanza administration to one that was joined in matrimonial vows.
“On August 9, a grand wedding was held; a permanent one until death do us part. This marriage between President Ruto, ourselves and the rest of Kenyans was as a result of a long courtship; tulipendana na tukaona tunaweza ishi pamoja,” he said.
He clarified that the alleged truce amongst a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders and Azimio MPs should not be perceived as a sign that there was a fallout. The Deputy President equally accused a section of media outlets of falsifying information to meet their agenda.
“There was a small problem…there was a little issue in parliamentary elections which has nothing to do with the president and myself…wabunge walikuwa wanakosana, which is normal. The president being a democrat, allowed them to do whatever they want,” he said.
While acknowledging that there were misunderstandings, the second-in-command underscored that the matter had been sorted and further cautioned media outlets against sensitizing information.
“The matter has been sorted, elections have taken place and we have moved on. Ruto is a democrat and is allowing internal democracy within his government. When you see a few of our MPs arguing over this and that, it does not mean there is any problem…we are all behind the president. Let the press not create a problem where there is none; I have read the papers today and they are saying there are no cracks in Ruto’s government. What cracks?” he said.
Gachagua on his educational background
Gachagua claimed that during the run-up to the August 9th presidential elections, certain quarters on social media painted him as illiterate and primitive only for him to disprove them with a brilliant performance during the Deputy Presidential debate.
After the heated debate, Gachagua was largely viewed to have beaten Azimio’s Martha Karua despite earlier predictions indicating that Karua would easily outwit him.
The former Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) alleged that he was portrayed as primitive by the media to brand him as a poor choice for Kenya Kwanza’s high stake running mate position.
“During the campaign period, social media tried to portray me as somebody who has not gone to school, somebody primitive. This was until I went to the Deputy Presidential debate, nikaporomosha kizungu mpaka wakajua mimi ni mtu nimesoma,” he stated.
Outlining his educational journey, Gachagua underscored the import of education revealing that he paused his Master’s degree course dream when the 2022 presidential campaigns hit the fever pitch.
“I was at the University of Nairobi from 1985 to 1988. Those who said I did not go to school now know. I started my master’s in international relations with a bias to conflict management but when things got tough I decided to focus on clinching the seat,” he stated amid cheers from the graduates.
