Four invigilators attached to Kisii Primary school in Kisii county were Monday replaced after they failed to report at the centre on time, delaying the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination ( KCPE).

Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary, Julius Juan,  who commissioned the examination in the County directed County Teacher Service Commission ( TSC) Director, Jane Mwaniki to replace them immediately pending disciplinary action.

One of the Invigilators who drove to the centre at 8:07 a.m was shocked when the Principal Secretary ordered him to reverse his vehicle, saying it was wrong for the Invigilator to commit to work, only to report late at the centre.

Juan asked “ who are you?”  “I am an invigilator, Sir,” he answered. “Reverse your vehicle and go away” the infuriated PS told the invigilator, who was confused and drove away in a huff.

The PS, accompanied by County Commissioner, Allan Macharia, TSC Director, Mwaniki and County Director of Education, Pius Ngo’ma said one of the candidates in Kenyenya Sub county was sick and doing the examination at the hospital, adding he will find out what happened.

He said the examination had started smoothly across the  Centres and security had been beefed at the centres and assured the candidates all will join form one in July as per the government’s policy on hundred percent transitions.

“I laud the education team for proper organization. We have started well and pray to God that everything goes on without hitches,” Juan said.

The County has 36,883 candidates; 18,242 boys and 18,641 girls who are sitting the examination in 9,709 centres in the county.

He urged centre managers, supervisors and invigilators to ensure that candidates wear masks, wash hands, keep social distance and sanitize to put covid 19 pandemic at bay.

Macharia said adequate security officers had been deployed in all the centres to ensure that the examination went on smoothly.
