Former Siaya County Assembly Clerk Felix Olwero has passed on.

Siaya Governor James Orengo confirmed the demise of Olwero via a statement on his X page on Monday, August 18, 2025.

According to Orengo, the deceased was brutally shot dead in unclear circumstances.

Governor Orengo added that the deceased was the husband of Siaya’s County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Angeline Oduor.

“Devastated by the tragic loss of Felix Olwero, former Siaya County Assembly Clerk and husband to our CECM for Sports, Madam Angeline Oduor, who was brutally shot dead this morning under unclear circumstances,” he stated.

Speedy investigations

While condemning the incident, the governor called for speedy investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of the former county employee.

“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms and demand swift, thorough investigations to ensure justice is served. No life should ever be cut short in such a senseless manner,” he stated.

By the time of this publication, the National Police Service (NPS) had not issued an official statement explaining what transpired.

Olwero’s tenure at the county was marked by major upheavals.

The official fought an ouster bid as Siaya MCAs unanimously resolved to remove him from office on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution, misconduct, and mismanagement in July 2024.

Following the suspension, he proceeded to challenge the decision in court and successfully defended his position later as the courts dismissed the pleas to have him dismissed.

In the legal victory, the Magistrate Court in Siaya ordered the withdrawal of a complaint against the county assembly clerk.

The ruling was delivered by Senior Principal Magistrate Lester Simiyu on April 11, 2024, following a letter from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) citing insufficient evidence.
