A section of football stakeholders from western region are calling on former Cecafa secretary-general Nicholas Musonye to contest for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) top seat in the forthcoming elections slated for later this year.

The call comes days after former football chief Sam Nyamweya declared his interest, becoming the only candidate to oppose the incumbent Nick Mwendwa but others expected to probably join the fray.

Former Kakamega Homeboyz and Chemelil coach Alfred Imonje called on Musonye to go for the top seat terming him the right person to streamline and bring back Kenyan football to the right track.

“Going by the current worrying situation due to poor management by top FKF administrators we as the stake holders in football fraternity we implore and urge our brother Nicholas Musonye to go for the top seat.

“His record at regional level (Cecafa) where he has really done great work by building a good network, that has even seen the event become one of the major attraction soccer tournament that has been recognised by Fifa.

“Through his leadership skills we have seen the wide gap that has been existing for decades between East Africa and West African teams having been narrowed and closed this has seen most teams compete in Caf organised tournaments.

“The state of football in the country is at the moment is at the lowest and if this trend will not be stopped it will come to affect our local football badly that will demoralize the players who are the key in the industry.

“We are shocked by the how fast the sponsors are walking away from football due lack of transparency, it will be difficult for Kenyan soccer we need to bring sponsors on board who can pump in money and restore faith of the other investors.

“We believe Musonye is the only person who can change and improve Kenya Soccer we want him to consider our call and respect football is equally a major and big industry that requires his style of management.

Imonje was also supported by Fkf official from Kakamega Mr. Fred Lugalia who said that it high time for Musonye who has excellently done well at Cecafa that his needs to transfer at his native country as one way of completing his legacy in football.
