The Ford Kenya Party has expressed deep sorrow following the death of veteran politician and former Shinyalu Member of Parliament, Daniel Khamasi. His passing, after a long illness, marks the loss of a committed leader and a pioneer in Kenya’s multiparty democracy.

In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced the passing of the veteran Ford Kenya politician and a former Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP)

“The Ford Kenya family is once again in mourning following the passing of veteran politician and former Shinyalu MP, Daniel Khamasi, after a long illness,” Wetang’ula stated.

Wetang’ula extended his sympathies to Khamasi’s family, friends, and political associates, acknowledging the emotional weight of the loss.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and associates during this difficult time,” he added.

Daniel Khamasi’s leadership

Khamasi served with distinction in the 7th and 8th Parliaments and was known for his principled approach to leadership. He also contributed to national governance as a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission, supporting institutional reforms and legislative oversight.

“Khamasi was a pioneer of multiparty democracy and a principled leader who served diligently in the 7th and 8th Parliaments,” Wetang’ula noted.

Wetangula said Daniel’s dedication to public service and unwavering advocacy for the constituents of Shinyalu earned him respect across Western Kenya and within Ford Kenya. He also emphasised Khamasi’s broader contributions to Kenya’s parliamentary institutions.

“He also served as a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC),” Wetang’ula said

Wetang’ula highlighted Khamasi’s commitment to serving the public and his lasting impact on the community he represented.

“He will be remembered for his strong commitment to public service and his unwavering advocacy for the people of Shinyalu,” Wetang’ula said.

In paying tribute, Wetang’ula called on Kenyans to honour Khamasi’s legacy and offered prayers for his family during this period of grief.

“On behalf of the Ford Kenya Party and the people of Western Kenya, I convey my sincere sympathies. May the Almighty grant his family strength, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” he concluded.
