After nearly six months of postponement, the inaugural Football Kenya Federation Women’s Cup is set to return to action this weekend with four scintillating quarter-finals fixtures in Western Kenya and Nairobi.

The tournament was initially scheduled to take place on March 27 and 28 for the quarterfinals, April 24 and 25 for the semifinals, and June 1, for the grand finale but due to Covid-19 surge in 13 counties in Nyanza, Western and part of lower Rift Valley, FKF decided to postpone the games to a later date, and now, the wait is over as the eight remaining teams are scheduled to square off on Saturday and Sunday to determine who will advance to the semi-finals.

The remaining knockout round of matches will be decided over an eight-day period, starting with the quarterfinals this Saturday.

This will pave way for the semifinals on Wednesday, September 22, and the finals on Sunday, September 26, 2021. All knockout ties will be single-legged.

Updated fixtures show that Women and Development Against Distress in Africa (Wadadia) FC will host Kisumu All Starlets on Saturday at Mumias Complex from 2pm in the only quarterfinal match scheduled for the day.

On Sunday, three other quarter-finals will be on offer where Ulinzi Starlets will take on Zetech Sparks at Stima Members Club, Nairobi, from noon before ushering in the second match at the same venue pitting Gaspo Women and Kayole Starlets from 2pm at Stima Members Club.

At Mumboha Ground in Luanda, Vihiga County, an entertaining local derby is brewing as FKF Women Premier League newly promoted side Bunyore Starlets FC hosts three-time FKF Women Premier League champions and now newly crowned CECAFA Women’s Club Champions League Champions Vihiga Queens FC from 2pm.

The winner between Wadadia and Kisumu All Starlets will lock horns with the winner of the match between Ulinzi Starlets and Zetech Sparks in the semifinal, while the other semifinal will see the winner of the match between Gaspo Women and Kayole Starlets come face-to-the Vihiga derby winner between Bunyore Starlets and Vihiga Queens.

“Vihiga Queens are the favourites in this match but we’re ready for them,” said Bunyore Starlets team manager Zacharia Amakhang’a.
