Five family members perish in a fire accident in Nyeri

Five members of the same family perished in an inferno at Gaikuyu village in Nyeri County on December 25.

According to witnesses, nothing in the house was rescued as huge flames had already engulfed the house by the time rescuers arrived.

“I saw huge flames burning my cousin’s house, we thought that the occupants were out. When enough people had gathered, the house was already down,” said a neighbour.

Remains of the house in which five family members were killed by fire in Nyeri.

According to a resident, attempts to get assistance from the fire department of Nyeri County through their area Member of County Assembly (MCA) were futile.

Neighbours who gathered to put out the fire were left in a shock after discovering that the fire had burned to death all the five occupants of the house.
