First Lady reassures Kenyans of Ruto’s deep concern for their plight
By Luke Oluoch, November 8, 2025First Lady Rachel Ruto has reassured Kenyans that President William Ruto remains concerned about the plight of Kenyans and is committed to improving their livelihoods.
Speaking while overseeing the distribution of relief items and services to the families affected by the deadly landslides in Chesongoch, Elgeyo Marakwet, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Ruto lauded the government’s efforts to extend empathy to the people affected by the recent tragedy in the area.
She stated that the government and the executive are privy to the needs of Kenyans.
“I want to assure you that President Ruto remembers all Kenyans wherever they are. He does not discriminate against anyone or any region; he is working to ensure that all people can access the basic needs to continue with their livelihoods,“ she stated.

Message of peace
The first lady also extended a message of peaceful and harmonious coexistence to the community residing along the Kerio Valley strip, a region prone to inter-community flare-ups.
“I want to thank the Interior CS. He has been instrumental in securing the safety of this region. He may be the son of the soil, but he has done his job exceptionally well. Let us maintain that peace and maintain our unity as God’s children,” she stated.
“To all Kenyans, let us all maintain peace. With peace, we can all continue with our daily livelihoods and move this country forward without fear,” she added.

Ruku, in his address, pledged to continue government intervention in the community and help them restore their normal livelihoods.
“We assure the affected families of government intervention. As the state department of the special program, I have been instructed to make deliberate plans. We will do resettlement and rebuild society affected by these tragedies,” he assured.
The CS stated that the government will cater to the costs incurred during postmortems and other medical emergencies.
The delegation also assessed the devastation caused by the landslide and distributed assorted relief items to the victims.
The first lady was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Davies Chirchir (Roads), and Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) Governors Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo-Marakwet) and Stephen Sang (Nandi), Deputy Governors Prof. Grace Cheserek (Elgeyo-Marakwet) and Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot (Nandi), MPs William Kisang (Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator), Caroline Ng’elechei (Elgeyo-Marakwet County MP), Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East), and Adams Kipsanai (Keiyo North), Acting Elgeyo-Marakwet County Commissioner Julius Maiyo, among other humanitarian aid agencies.
