Livestock farmers from Nyamathumbi and Karuri villages in Gatundu North constituency, Kiambu county, are counting losses after dogs went on a killing spree, leaving over 15 sheep dead.

The farmers expressed worry that the wild dogs might attack school-going children who are now required to be escorted to school for safety.

“We are also unaware of whether the stray dogs are carrying with them a disease that is likely to even spread to our other livestock.

We need quick action from the government to have the dogs arrested to avert a serious crisis,” said Francis Kariuki, a farmer who lost two sheep in the incident.

The relevant authorities, he added, have remained tight-lipped on the matter, leaving them to worry about their security and that of their livestock.
