The family of the slained former Nzoia County Council Councillor Ronald Matui has expressed fears over their security and asked inspector General Hillary Mutyamabi to intervene.

The family members who were speaking to the People Daily at the Good Will Cottage hospital where their elder brother Hillary Ndiema has been recuperating from after being attacked alongside with former councilor said their lives are in danger and asked Mutyambai to have the killers arrested.

“The attackers who descended on us killing my brother Ronald Matui and leaving Hillary for the dead are still sending threats to family members. They have even called the late Matai’s wife demanding for land documents as if they are not sorry for what they did,” lamented the deceased’s sister Violet Sambirir.

She expressed fear over the family’s security ahead of the burial of the former Councillor who is expected to be laid to rest at his home in Kisawai Wednesday.

Her elder brother Hillary who spoke to the People Daily at his hospital bed recalled how a mob descended on him with larger stones and other crude weapons only to be prevailed upon by his brother Ronald to have him spared.

“Ronald shouted begging the gang not to harm me but allow dialogue to solve the impasse on the land issue he said could be solved instead of resorting to violence. The mob left me thinking that I was already dead and beat my brother whom I have been informed was killed instantly,” he narrated amid sobbing.

Ndiema says he remembers some of the people among them a sister and one of her late relative’s wife who yelled attracting a group of about 20 attackers.

He added that the motives of the attackers was to kill both of them in order to stop them from following up the land matter that had been ruled in favour of his two sisters who had expressed interest of disposing off their parcels given to them by their late father who had an expansive piece of land both in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties.

He called for the arrests of the culprits whom he said were very dangerous people who could do anything.

Mt. Elgon DCIO Bakari Nzoffu said police were pursuing suspects of the heinous attackers some of who are still at large.

“A team of police officers visited the scene of crime where they established that the deceased was brutally killed after being slashed severally on the head , legs and chest after he was accosted by the mob that seriously injured his elder brother who is hospitalized in Kitale,” he said in an interview with the People Daily .

He said police officers had finished taking statements from Hillary Ndiema who had been admitted at the Goodwill Hospital in Kitale.
