Envoy seeks to have deeper Kenya-Algeria relationship
Algerian Ambassador to Kenya, Mahi Boumediene has stepped up the relationship with Kenya using training by locals in the northern African economic powerhouse.
The envoy who recently hosted some dozen Kenyan beneficiaries of the Algerian scholarship program for the celebration of the country’s national independence day, said they have supported his country’s strategy to promote its bilateral relations with other African countries.
He said Algeria has worked to strengthen its presence on the continent politically and economically while accompanying its bilateral allies on their development paths through the exchange of experiences.
“The best example of this is the Kenyan sisters and brothers who were trained in Algeria, and who are with us today to participate in the celebration of Independence Day, as they are Algeria’s ambassadors in Kenya,” Amb Boumediene said.
He pointed out that it’s always a good thing for Kenyans constantly showing up during such events to share with the Algerian people the celebration of its national days.
“I hope that this relationship will continue to develop in form and substance so that this group can become a true bridge between the two brotherly peoples of Algeria and Kenya,” he added, calling on the Algerian community residing in Kenya to acknowledge the importance of their upcoming presidential elections slated for September 7.
“We consider the upcoming election as an essential step in the process of strengthening national construction, continuing to build the national economy, and consolidating the social gains achieved,” Amb Boumediene pointed out.
Further, he was categorical that the imminent polls require all Algerians wherever they are to mobilize and make it a success, through strong participation that reflects the involvement of the country’s citizenry in the political process. “This process is aimed at strengthening national institutional stability and consolidating the internal front in the face of the current challenges,” he noted.
Algeria gained its independence through a chaotic and violent revolution on July 5, 1962, after 132 years of French occupation. However, this inspired revolutionaries worldwide.
This, Amb. Boumediene said, has also motivated a sense of awareness by the Algerian people in standing up against attempts to take back the country off its historical course, and the values of its eternal revolution.
“From this position, and as we remember the sacrifices made by our ancestors in the name of reviving the Algerian state, I would like to invite the members of our community residing in Kenya to participate in this important event for the future of our beloved country,” he urged.
The envoy also urged the Algerian Community in Kenya to pay attention to everything that concerns their country and to work to defend it.
The Kenyan beneficiaries of the Algerian government’s scholarship program joined the Ambassador, staff at the Embassy and a few Algerians to mark the 62nd national Independence Day.
