The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a summons to Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wangamati to appear before the commission’s headquarters at the Integrity Centre.

In a presser signed by the commission’s CEO, Abdi Mahmoud, on Friday, August 29, 2025, the commission has directed the pair to appear before its office on Monday, September 1, 2025.

EACC has further confirmed the summons upon the receipt of consent from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to prefer charges against the two.

Additionally, the commission has directed 12 other persons to appear before the anti-graft body for investigations.

The person of interest has been directed to be at the Integrity Centre by 8:00 am.

The foregoing comes after President William Ruto challenged the commission to step up its fight against individuals and agencies perpetuating cases of graft in the country.

Speaking during the devolution conference in Homa Bay County on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Ruto specifically urged the EACC to help in addressing the menace of corruption in the country.

“EACC must take up their role seriously. I have made it clear that there will be no sacred cow or telephone call from above to stop anybody from being prosecuted in matters of corruption. All agencies must come together to deal with the problem of corruption and ensure resources are used as intended by the people of Kenya,” he stated.

His challenge also extended to the legislative arm of government and the courts.

“I want to urge the judiciary not to be a haven for the corrupt to hide behind judicial decisions,” he stated.
