Doctor Daniel Gikonyo has vehemently denied hiding the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, at the Karen Hospital in a bid to help him evade impeachment.

Gikonyo, who appeared before Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi, and Antony Murima on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, over his affidavit on Gachagua’s illness, confirmed he did not admit him as a way of hiding him.

Gachagua’s lead counsel, senior counsel Paul Muite, asked Gikonyo to take the earlier question by senior counsel Muthomi Thiankolu on whether he hid his client in his hospital seriously.

‘One very brief question for you, Doctor Gikonyo: it was put to you by Doctor Thiankolu that you admitted the petitioner (Rigathi Gachagua) to hide him, suggesting he was not sick, and I think you responded by laughing,’ Senior Counsel Muite said to Gikonyo.

“Now that you have finished laughing, will you please answer the question? Was Rigathi Gachagua sick or not sick? Were you hiding him in your hospital? Please answer; it is a serious question,” Muite added.

In his response, Doctor Gikonyo said that he must admit his laughter at the question was because he thought it was not a serious question because maybe it’s not common sense.

Further, he told the bench that Gachagua was sick and they have all the data detailing his sickness, admission, and lab tests, among other medical reports that can only be availed of through a court order.

“The answer is yes, he was sick; we admitted him. We have data that is available to any medical person. We have medical reports and lab data that are available on demand to this court,” Doctor Gikonyo told the court.

Notably, the court heard that Gikonyo personally attended Gachagua together with his team when he sought treatment at his facility, reiterating that he was sick and they have data; if there are any further questions, they will be answered.

During cross-examination by senior counsel Thiankolu, who is representing deputy president Kithure Kindiki, Gikonyo revealed to the court that it was deliberate for the hospital to identify the ex-DP as RG in the medical documents and reports.

“Does this document give the patient’s name?” senior counsel Thiankolu asked Gikonyo.

“Deliberately not”, Doctor Gikonyo responded.

“Does this document indicate the identity card number of the patient being attended?” Does it indicate the national identity card number? Either it does or it does not,” senior counsel Thiankolu asked doctor Gikonyo.

In his response he said, “Deliberately not.”
