DPP wants Sonko denied bail

By , December 9, 2019

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has urged the anti-corruption court to deny Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko bail.

The DPP argued that the governor will interfere with witnesses who are junior officers and employees at the city county government where he is the boss exercising executive authority.

The prosecution further argued that Sonko used his position as the governor to incite some  of the county executive committee members from recording statements in other ongoing investigation and as such releasing him on bail will further jeopardize investigations.

“That Sonko is a influential, flamboyant and wealthy public figure with rowdy sycophantic following who on numerous occasions have threatened and demonstrated to act outside the realm of the rule of law,” says the prosecution.

Through James Kihara, the DPP wants the governor detained saying that the governor attempted to escape on Friday, but was arrested  in Voi town.
