Dorcas Gachagua has hit back at critics who have consistently targeted her family, making it clear that she will not apologise for being the wife of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in Baltimore, USA, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, Dorcas asserted that her marriage to the former deputy president does not define her abilities or limit her individuality. She noted that she is a university graduate with a degree and a professional background in banking, adding that she is also a mother and a leader in her own right.

“I am His Excellency’s spouse, and I don’t apologise for that, and there is nothing wrong with being married to His Excellency. The fact that I am married to him does not make me a person without a brain. I have gone to school, I have been to the university, I have a degree, and I am a professional banker,” she said.

Dorcas acknowledged the support she receives from her husband, stating that it allows her to serve others effectively and pursue her vision.

She highlighted the importance of strong family values within the community and maintained that mutual belief and support in marriage are key to a family’s success.

“I am a mother, and God has also given me the opportunity to serve people. When you see me standing and speaking, it is because I have a good husband who supports my vision and believes in me. I also believe in him. If you are a man and your family can stand behind you and speak good things about you, then you are good,” he added.

Slamming critics

She further remarked that public commentary about their relationship would not deter her from standing by her husband and upholding the values they share as a family.

”You can see many people out there speaking about our relationship. Family values in a community are very important,” she added.

This comes days after Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah’s remarks over her union and Gachagua’s that stirred public reactions, with most leaders slamming Ichungwah for meddling in people’s families.
