Kimilili MP and 2027 Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful Didimus Barasa has explained the inspiration behind his signature red cap that he is often seen wearing.

Speaking during an interview with a local Luhya radio station aired on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Barasa said he wears the cap as part of his personal style. He revealed that it is supplied to him by a gracious lady from Ghana named Paulina George, who is married to George Otieno, a former insurance company manager in Ghana.

Barasa described the cap as beautifully made and noted that there is no deeper meaning behind it other than its unique design and beauty.

“I wear it as part of my design. It is supplied by a gracious lady from Ghana called Paulina George, married to Mr George Otieno, who used to be a manager of an insurance company in Ghana, and she has a beautiful lady called Paulina George. There is nothing behind it; it’s just a beauty,” Barasa said.

Barasa emphasised that the cap is special, as it is the only red hat permitted in the history of the Kenyan Parliament. He explained that he is the only person allowed to wear it in the National Assembly and that the cap holds a special parliamentary status.

“For you to know that I am special and this red hat is special in the history of the Parliament of Kenya, it is the only red hat that is allowed. I am the only person allowed to wear it in the National Assembly; this cape has a parliamentary status,” he added.

Planning to patent it

He added that he is considering patenting the design so that those who wear similar caps would be required to pay royalties. Barasa also addressed Kenyans who wear caps resembling his, saying that anyone wearing the cap should conduct themselves well and uphold high standards of behaviour.

He further expressed that those wearing it should live uprightly and align themselves with positive values.

“And I think I need to patent it. Many people who should wear it should pay some royalties because I have seen many Kenyans wearing it, and I want to address them by saying that if you wear this heart, you must be well-behaved. If you haven’t given your life to Jesus Christ,” he concluded.
