Mombasa crackdown
The Kilifi crackdown comes days after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa arrested two persons of interest and recovered 250 kilograms of cannabis sativa in a targeted operation aimed at dismantling narcotics supply chains along the coast.
Taking it to their social media handles on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that, based on credible intelligence, officers first raided the Port Reitz area in Changamwe, where they found one person who was believed to be a key figure in the illegal trade.
His arrest led to a broader trail that led detectives to his accomplice, a 23-year-old who was traced to the Mudengereni location in Kisauni.
“Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Mombasa have arrested two traffickers and seized 250 kilograms of cannabis sativa. Acting on credible tips, the detectives descended on the 43-year-old in the Port Reitz area of Changamwe. His arrest unravelled a tangled web, leading officers directly to his accomplice, 23 years old, in the Mudengereni area of Kisauni,” the DCI stated.
Upon questioning, the first person of interest took officers to his rented house, where a search was conducted, and two sacks of Cannabis sativa were recovered, well packaged and ready to distribute.
The DCI confirmed that the persons of interest are in custody awaiting the court proceedings, as detectives continue to investigate the larger drug trafficking network, which is suspected to be operating within Mombasa and its environs.
