Detectives arrest 5 men linked to murder plot in Tharaka Nithi
Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) have arrested five men linked to a murder plot that left two dead and two others with severe injuries in Tharaka Nithi County.
In a statement on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the DCI confirmed that the murder incident occurred on May 21, 2026, in Tonto Village, Kamwimbi Location, Tharaka Nithi County.
At the time of the incident, the gang is believed to have been armed with firearms and crude weapons.
“A team of detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) have arrested five suspects in connection with a horrifying incident that occurred on May 21, 2026, in Tonto Village, Kamwimbi Location, Tharaka Nithi County, where a gang armed with firearms and crude weapons descended upon a homestead, leaving two people dead and two others fighting for their lives,” DCI stated.
According to the DCI, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the attackers stormed the homestead, unleashing chaos as they fatally assaulted a man at the entrance.

The attack
The Detectives revealed that in a brazen display of violence, the persons of interest fired several shots into the air to intimidate nearby residents before they advanced deeper into the compound, where they ruthlessly took the life of an elderly woman.
Amidst the brutality, two other victims were left seriously injured and urgently rushed to the hospital for life-saving treatment.
Owing to the grave nature of the incident, detectives from CRIB Headquarters swiftly took over the investigation, embarking on an intensive intelligence-led operation.
The arrest
Through meticulous detective work and forensic analysis, they began to unearth the identities of several suspects believed to be directly connected to this horrific attack.
“A series of well-coordinated operations conducted between June 4 and June 8 culminated in the arrest of five individuals: Benson Mugendi Patrick, Kibet Collins Kemboi, Wilson Kinyua Nyaga, Josphat Nyaga Njue, and Joseph Kinyua Njeru, famously known as Maruu,” DCI stated.
According to the DCI, preliminary investigations reveal a meticulously planned criminal conspiracy. Forensic analysis and intelligence reports have proven crucial in unravelling the chilling plot.
“The five suspects currently remain in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment, as detectives pursue additional suspects believed to have played a role in this heinous crime,” DCI added.
On the other hand, the DCI has noted its steadfast commitment to ensuring that every individual involved in these brutal killings is identified, arrested, and brought to justice.
