December 2, 2024: Top news events to look out for today
Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Reactions to Gachagua’s interview
Kenyans and politicians are expected to react today to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s interview at his Karen residence on December 2, 2024.
Gachagua, who fell out with President William Ruto, was unceremoniously removed from office by way of impeachment after a contentious court process.
During the interview, Gachagua revealed reasons behind his fallout with Ruto, indicating that the president was bulldozing pet projects that lacked the backing of most Kenyans.
“I defended everything that was above board. Registration of farmers for fertiliser programme, I defended, I worked on it, coffee reforms I defended, tea reforms I defended… anything that was above board. But issues of corruption, issues of theft of public funds, I could not go and defend,” Gachagua said.
He also indicated his willingness to get into political formations with opposition parties in readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Qatar jobs update
The ongoing labour migration initiative is expected to continue today, Monday, December 2, 2024, with job applicants who have yet to sign their offer letters being urged to report to the various locations to ink their commitments.
This follows a communication by the Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua on November 29, 2024, which invited the candidates who had passed and received phone calls to that effect.
“If you have passed and been called but have not yet signed your offer letter, please come on Monday to the notified location between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm,” Mutua said.
