The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General, Hezron Obaga, has praised the party’s performance in the Emurua Dikirr mini-polls despite losing to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), describing the outcome as a strong foundation for future political contests.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Friday, May 15, 2026, Obaga noted that the party put up a competitive showing in the hotly contested by-election, securing a significant share of the vote against the ruling party.

He cited the final tallies as released by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), where UDA’s candidate David Keter, alias Dolarline, led with 18,000 votes while DCP’s Vincent Rotich followed with 11,000 votes, translating to about 36 per cent of the total vote share for the opposition party.

“We fought a worthy battle in Emurua Dikirr, and though the outcome was not in our favour, securing 36% of the vote is no small feat.”

“1. UDA 18000  2. DCP 11000 To every supporter, volunteer, agent, and voter who stood with us through the highs and challenges, thank you for believing in this movement and standing firm with us,” he said.

Obaga commended party supporters, volunteers, agents, and voters who participated in the campaign, saying their commitment and resilience had strengthened the movement even in defeat. He emphasised that the results reflected growing support for the party in the region.

He maintained that the outcome should be viewed as a stepping stone rather than a setback, adding that the party would take time to reorganise and return stronger in future elections. He said the experience gained in Emurua Dikirr would be crucial in shaping the party’s strategy going forward.

Vincent Rotich, the party’s candidate, was also singled out for praise, with Obaga describing his campaign as one marked by courage and determination, noting that his political journey was only beginning and would continue to grow in future contests.

Despite the loss, DCP leadership expressed optimism that its support base remains solid and expanding, signalling that the party intends to remain active and competitive in upcoming political battles.
