Detectives have taken two persons of interest into custody after recovering cannabis valued at Ksh3,300,000 following a high-speed chase in Nakuru.

Through a statement on Monday, July 27, 2026, on X, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation took place along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.

Detectives recovered five sacks containing 110 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa from an abandoned vehicle.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Nakuru conducted the intelligence-led operation with officers from the police canine unit.

High-speed chase towards Eveready

According to the DCI, officers had laid a trap for a blue Nissan Note after receiving intelligence about its movement.

The driver failed to stop when officers flagged down the vehicle. This prompted a high-speed chase along the highway.

“Not even a deflated front tyre could immediately kill the vehicle’s momentum,” the DCI said.

The vehicle made a dangerous U-turn at the KFA Roundabout before speeding towards the Eveready area on a flat rim.

The two occupants later abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.

“Realising they couldn’t get away, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels,” the DCI said in its statement.

Detectives pursued the two and took them into custody before they could leave the area.

Five sacks of cannabis recovered

A search of the abandoned vehicle led detectives to five sacks filled with cannabis sativa.

The recovered consignment weighed 110 kilogrammes and was valued at Ksh3,300,000

“A search of the abandoned car uncovered five sacks filled with Cannabis Sativa, weighing 110 kilograms,” the DCI said.

The two persons of interest are being processed ahead of their arraignment.

The recovered cannabis has been secured as an exhibit as investigations continue.

The DCI did not disclose where the consignment originated or its intended destination.
