ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and ODM Leader Raila Odinga today joined Gor Mahia fans to watch the KPL top side’s match against Nzoia FC at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Owalo who played a pivotal role in President William Ruto’s August victory shared photos of himself seated beside the opposition chief during the match that marked the return of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.

“This afternoon I bumped into my former boss Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga at the Nyayo Stadium as we both went to watch a football match between Gor Mahia and Nzoia FC. Gor Won the game 1-0. We need to get back to our stadia & support our local clubs to create employment for our youth,” Owalo posted.

Luo Nyanza kingpinship

The rare meeting, which CS Owalo claimed was unplanned, comes amidst a clamour to usurp the ODM supremo from his Luo kingpinship.

The appointment of the former Raila Odinga’s close aide to a lucrative cabinet position has seen him being touted as the next big thing in Luo Nyanza politics.

Owalo currently leads a team of ODM rebels who have expressed interest in working with the Kenya Kwanza administration to infiltrate Raila’s Luo-Nyanza turf.

Part of the team is a group of disgruntled ex-ODM MPs who ditched the Orange party after claims of being rigged out of the party’s primaries.

Also on the team is lawyer and activist Miguna Miguna who recently jetted back into the country after a 4-year stay in forced exile. Miguna has umpteenth times exuded confidence that he is capable of liberating the Luos from the grip of ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and former Migori Governor Okoth Obado are also part of the team hell-bent on snatching the vote-rich region from Raila’s decades-long grip.
