CS Mutua: Ukambani leaders to meet Ruto to discuss 7 urgent issues

Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua has revealed that a delegation of leaders from Ukambani is due to meet with President William Ruto.
Although he did not mention the exact date the meeting is expected to be held, the CS listed issues that will be discussed with the Head of State.
“We are set to engage H.E. the President @WilliamsRuto to discuss urgent development priorities, including road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity to boost economic growth.
“Education Standards: improving access to quality education and learning facilities; Water Resources: expanding access to clean and reliable water; Electricity Provision: accelerating electrification efforts in the region. Employment opportunities, creating jobs for the youth both locally and internationally. Business Support: strengthening access to credit, funding, and job opportunities for entrepreneurs. Professional appointments, advocating for more Ukambani professionals to serve in key government roles within Kenya Kwanza, Mutua said in a post on X on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Other issues discussed
The former Machakos County governor also said that during the meeting with the delegation, they discussed empowerment and leadership opportunities, among other issues.
“We explored strategies to empower the people of Ukambani by ensuring they have access to leadership and professional opportunities across various sectors.
“Our discussions reaffirmed our commitment to unity, strengthening our collective resolve to drive development as a united people. Transparency: Upholding honesty and openness to enable informed decision-making for the progress of our community,” the statement added.
Youth empowerment was also discussed with the CS, saying that he recognizes the importance of youth in leadership and development.
“We committed to mentorship and skills development programs to prepare young people for future leadership roles,” he said.
To ensure their development agenda is people-driven, Mutua said that they will conduct listening tours across key counties, including Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taveta, Embu, and Kwale.
They also discussed how to strengthen national contributions, next steps and action plans, youth programs, and development follow-ups.
“The Kamba community is an integral part of Kenya, and we must take a proactive role in national development. We must harness our potential, seize available opportunities, and position ourselves as key contributors to Kenya’s progress.
“Organize and schedule visits to the identified regions to engage directly with the people. Launch mentorship and leadership development initiatives. Track and report on progress in infrastructure, education, water, electricity, and employment opportunities,” the statement concluded.
