CS Davis Chirchir’s father dies
Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir is in mourning following the death of his father, Mzee Edwin Koech.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Ministry of Interior and National Security Principal Secretary, Raymond Omollo, confirmed the death of Mzee Koech and offered his condolences to CS Chirchir.
The PS further sent his condolences to the family of Chirchir as they navigate the profound loss of their father.

“My deepest condolences to Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir on the passing of your dear father, Mr. Edwin Koech. May you and your family be upheld with grace, strength, and peace as you navigate this profound loss,” Omollo stated.
Condolences
Among those who mourned with the CS is Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who has eulogised the late Mzee Koech as a strong guiding pillar and a father figure who provided mentorship to many.
“My thoughts and prayers to the family of Davis Chirchir following the loss of his father, Edwin Koech. Mzee Koech stood as a strong guiding pillar and played a father figure to countless people – providing invaluable mentorship beyond his immediate and extended family.

Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir, has also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the nation at large.
“I join the nation in mourning with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, following the passing of his father, Mr. Edwin Koech,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of her constituents, Chepkorir conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the CS and his family, noting that the loss had touched many beyond the immediate family.
“On behalf of the people I represent, I convey my sincere sympathies to you, your family, and all those touched by this loss. During this difficult time, may you find strength in your faith, comfort in the support of loved ones, and peace in the cherished memories you shared,” she added.
She further prayed for the family, expressing hope that they would find the strength to endure the grief.

“May the Almighty grant the late Mr. Edwin Koech eternal rest and give your family the fortitude to overcome this sorrow,” she said.
Former CS Charles Keter condoled with the family. He remembered the deceased for his generosity and impact in the community.
“Arap Koech gave generously of his time, resources, and counsel to uplift those around him. The lives he touched and the developments he championed in his community stand as a lasting tribute to a man who believed in the power of giving back,” Keter stated.
Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech empathised with the Transport CS. He praised the late Mzee Koech for being a hardworking and resilient man who dedicated his life to nurturing his family and serving his community.
“Mzee Koech will be remembered as a devoted Christian, a hardworking and resilient man who dedicated his life to nurturing his family and serving his community. Through his values of discipline, integrity, and faith, he raised children who have gone on to excel in their respective fields—an enduring testament to his guidance and commitment,” Koech wrote.
