CS announces mass mosquito net distribution
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha said yesterday that her ministry will start mass distribution of mosquito nets across the country to forestall possible outbreak of malaria due to the ongoing rains.
Nakhumicha cautioned Kenyans to be on the lookout for possible outbreak of waterborne diseases as heavy rains continue to pound most parts of the country , causing flooding.
“Kenyans should watch against the outbreak and spread of waterborne diseases due to the flooding,” Nakhumicha said.
She spoke during a tour of Nyandarua and Laikipia counties where she distributed electronic gadgets to Community Health Promoters (CHPs). She said the gadgets will ease CHPs’ data collection and storage.
“These gadgets are equipped with the electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS), a vital tool in the digital health transformation and they will play a critical role in assisting CHPs in collecting and transferring data,” she said at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou town Nyandarua County.
The CS said her ministry is committed to utilising technology as a catalyst for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with emphasis on preventive health services instead of curative measures.
She said UHC is one of the areas the government and its partners are working on to achieve to ensure such services get closure to the people by using properly trained people.
Nyandarua governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha lauded introduction of CHPs saying the goal of community health services is to enhance access to healthcare.
