Cops keen on tracking calls that blew Obadia’s cover
Every person has a unique calling behaviour pattern that if analysed, can be used to develop call logs tracking system which can predict his new phone numbers, and most importantly, the people he is likely to contact afterwards.
Obadia made three calls, all to his mother and another man, using three different phones he borrowed from strangers while travelling to Kisii, in Kilgoris and the final one at the Kenya –Tanzania border.
He had abandoned his phone at a garbage site in Mukuru in Nairobi, according to the detectives.
Detectives had checked his call data and found the people he recently and frequently called, especially from his rural home in Kisii.
The first call he made to his mother informing her that he was headed home was intercepted and the owner of the phone tracked down.
He told the detectives that a middle-aged man who was seated next to him in a vehicle had requested to use his phone.
He later called his mother and informed her that he had safely arrived in Kilgoris.
The owner of the phone was again traced at the bus stage and said a man had borrowed his phone.
During that conversation, Obadia revealed that he was headed to Kehancha.
The officer instantly knew the suspect was headed to the neighbouring country and proceeded to lay a trap at the Isebania border.
