Cops in botched Kapseret MP, Sudi arrest face action

Three police officers suspected to have helped Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi escape arrest were yesterday grilled at the police headquarters.
Officers, including a Chief Inspector of Police are attached to Deputy President William Ruto.
Chief Inspector Amos Ekiru, attached to the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) is reported to have escaped with Sudi leaving behind his official car and firearm.
A team of officers led by the Uasin Gishu County Police commander Johnston Ipara then arrested Sudi’s bodyguard and the two PEU officers; Constables Isaack Dida and Simon Sieng, at the MP’s residence.
During that time, Constable Dida was armed with a Jericho pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition while Sieng was armed with a Ceska pistol and 30 rounds of ammunition, according to police headquarters.
The trio had been summoned to Jogoo House where they faced a panel of senior officers for the grilling.
Investigation will be used for among others, internal disciplinary action on the officers.
It was, however, not immediately established if they could be charged with aiding a suspect to suspect.
