Confusion over charge sheet lands Kega’s PA in jail

By , July 13, 2022

Personal Assistant to Kieni MP Kanini Kega spent the weekend in prison over apparent confusion of charge sheets to be used in court.

Dickson Mwangi was forced to spend the weekend at King’ong’o Prison in Nyeri after he was charged with assault under circumstances that Kega is now laying blame on the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

Kega says his PA was arrested and arraigned without any investigations undertaken as required in law.

Bodily harm

Records from Nyeri Law Courts indicate Mwangi (pictured) was arrested on July 8, and immediately rushed to court under charges prepared by Office of the Director of Prosecutions.

He was immediately paraded before Nyeri Principal Magistrate James Macharia, who subsequently remanded him at King’ong’o Maximum Security Prison till today when his petition to be released on bail will be heard. Prosecutor Clair Muriithi applied for Mwangi to be detained at the facility on grounds that he could interfere with the case if released.

According to the charge sheet, Mwangi was accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Jeremiah Nyaga at Gamerock area, Nyeri on June 30.

The charge sheet seen by People Daily is signed and stamped by the DPP instead of the traditional one signed and stamped by the Officer Commanding Station and bearing logo of the National Police Service.
