Clinical officers are now set to march to Afya House as their industrial strike gains momentum.

In a statement shared on their social media platforms on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) called on its members to converge at Green Park Bus Terminus on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, ahead of a planned march to key government offices.

According to the union, the procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will proceed to the Ministry of Health headquarters at Afya House, City Hall, and the Council of Governors (CoG) offices.

KUCO said the march is part of efforts to pressure the government to address long-standing grievances affecting clinical officers. Among the key demands are the signing of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), implementation of the return-to-work formula (RTWF), and the absorption of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff into permanent and pensionable terms.

The union is also demanding the payment and absorption of Global Fund staff, whom it says continue to face uncertainty despite playing a critical role in the healthcare system.

The planned march comes as negotiations between clinical officers and the government remain stalled, with the strike continuing to disrupt services in public health facilities across the country.

The clinical officers’ strike began on December 22, 2025, after they had issued a 21-day ultimatum for the govt to act and deliberate on the concerns they wanted addressed

“The Union has issued a strike notice of 21 days elapsing on the midnight of 22nd December 2025, involving all Clinical Officers working under the Ministry of Health and County Governments and including Clinical interns,” reads the statement

KUCO’s message to Clinicians

On the eve of the industrial action on December 21, 2025, KUCO’s Office of the National Chairman issued a strong call to action under the banner “Prepare for strike!! a call to rise, defend professional dignity and reclaim respect!”

“It further directed that all clinical officers working under the Ministry of Health and county governments, and including specialists & clinical interns, should be on strike from midnight of Monday 22nd December 2025.”
