Members of the interfaith community in Nakuru County have called on leaders to exercise tolerance during political meetings to avoid dividing the country along tribal lines.

According to the clerics, the recent rise of political intolerance, pockets of violence and unrest in the political landscape if not tamed they warn it could further polarize the nation.

Speaking in Nakuru yesterday, the leaders ledy by Alex Maina warned that the ongoing political rhetoric among leaders was a replica of how violence began in 2007/08.

Maina called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to take charge of the situation and ensure there is peaceful coexistence adding that he has authority to restore dignity.

“There is a lot of smoke, if nothing is done there will soon be a fire. The rhetoric speak among leaders, unrest, violence and gangs in political rallies is all but a sure sign that all is not well,” said Maina.

He said they want all leaders propagating ethnicity and chaos apprehended adding that they have a responsibility as a church to ensure peace is maintained.

He further added that political leaders in their respective jurisdiction should demand for peaceful coexistence and also embrace divergent views.

“We have rebuilt this nation from scratch since 2007 and we do not wish to be taken back there, we must all join hands and reject inciters,” said Maina.
