George Gathari Mwangi, the Central Region Overseer of Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, has assured Rigathi Gachagua of his support and that he is on course to become the next president if he earns the support of the united opposition as its flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, during the burial of Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia’s father, the overseer urged Gachagua not to fret about earning the support of the Mt. Kenya region, stating that he holds sway over the major voting bloc.

He also conveyed his personal respects for the former deputy president, whom he termed a hero for the Mt. Kenya region

“Rigathi nakuenzi sana, wewe ni shujaa wa huu mlima,” he said.

“Nyuma yangu kuna watu wengi sana. Nimeshika Kiambu yote, Nyandarua, Muranga na subcounty ya Naivasha ni kwangu. Sasa nyuma yangu kuna watu ama hakuna?” He posed.

While touting himself as a man of few words, Gathara Gachagua said that he will successfully clinch the country’s presidency if he becomes the united opposition flagbearer.

Earning opposition’s support

According to the overseer, the church remains privy to the political goings-on in the country and will make its decision accordingly when the time comes.

“Sisi watu wa Full Gospel hatujui mpira wa juu, mpira wetu ni wa chini. Sisi hatuwezi kukuambia kile tunafanya, lakini ukisimama na uungwe mkono na full Gospel, wewe unaingia. Watu wetu wa Full Gospel ni wengi na wako kila mahali na wanajua kile kinaendelea,” he added.

The burial ceremony brought together a horde of politicians allied to the opposition, including presidential hopefuls Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiangi of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) and Jubilee party, respectively, and governor Kiarie Badilisha and his Deputy Governor Mathara Mwangi

Others included former AG Justin Muturi, spouse of the second deputy president, Dorcas Rigathi, and area senator John Methu, among others
