Former Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa was forced to intervene by drawing his gun to protect Saboti MP aspirant Joseph Pepela from being attacked.

The incident, which took place at Kitale Club on the night of Saturday, September 20, 2025, occurred while Wamalwa was holding a meeting with Pepela. The two were confronted by individuals known to Wamalwa, who attempted to fight Pepela. Wamalwa swiftly drew his gun and shielded Pepela from the attack.

“Get out. Get out; you can’t fight in the club. Please stop recording,” Wamalwa ordered.

The furious former MP warned the group against recording the incident and ordered them out of the club, telling them they could not fight inside the premises.

The attackers, who appeared to be supporters of Moses Wetang’ula, could be heard accusing Pepela of insulting the National Assembly Speaker, insisting they would not allow him to continue disrespecting him.

“Lazima aheshimu party leader. Party leader sio mtoto wake. Chris, tunakuheshimu, lakini yeye ni nani huyu huyu kijana? Tutakufunza lesson. You are nobody; we will deal with you accordingly. Pepela, wewe ni nani? umetusi party leader sana; hajawahi heshimu party leader. Chris, you have to tell Pepela to stop insulting the party leader. Pepela is too much,” one of them was heard saying.

One of the agitated supporters told Wamalwa that while he respected him, he would not tolerate Pepela’s continued attacks on the Speaker.

As the fracas unfolded, other people in the club turned their attention to the commotion but did not intervene. The former MP eventually restored order by sending the attackers out.

Who is Joseph Pepela?

Pepela is a Kitale-based politician who unsuccessfully contested the Saboti parliamentary race in 2017 under the Jubilee ticket and in 2022 under the Ford Kenya Party ticket but lost to Caleb Amisi in both instances.

Pepela, despite holding a leadership position within Ford Kenya in the county, has, for the recent past, sustained an onslaught on his party leader, Wetangula, speaking doom for him in Trans-Nzoia, stating that he should remain in Bungoma and leave Trans-Nzoia matters to them.

He has accused the National Assembly Speaker of being egocentric, saying that he was supposed to be a Principal Secretary, but Wetang’ula intercepted it.
