President William Ruto has commented on the Finland and Canada Overseas Education Programme initiated by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, leading to the loss of millions for parents and students.

Speaking during the eighth Devolution Conference, Ruto warned those who allegedly stole millions from parents in the saga to return the money, terming the incident as embarrassing.

“It is embarrassing for anyone to steal money meant for the education of young people in Uasin Gishu. Those involved should carry their own cross,” Ruto said.

“Investigations are ongoing. If anyone embezzled the money, let them prepare to pay or they’ll be in trouble. It is unacceptable. It is embarrassing.

This comes moments after a Nakuru law court issued a warrant of arrest against Mandago and three other former officials over the Ksh1.1 billion saga.

Ruto promised to help the students who had been affected in the saga, but “after investigations are over”.

“I will see how we can help the students affected in the saga after investigations are done. We will see how we can give them scholarships here (in Kenya),” Ruto added.

Mandago was later arrested in Eldoret following the order.
