Caleb Amisi puts Mudavadi under pressure with bold message to Luhya community
By Mabonga Makhanu, September 1, 2025Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called for a paradigm shift in Luhya leadership as he urged the community to embrace a new generation of emerging leaders.
Speaking in Matungu on Monday, September 1, 2025, while in the company of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, the youthful legislator said it was time for the community to move away from the old guard, such as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, whom he accused of holding the region back for many years and also of being in leadership positions since time immemorial.
Amisi took issue with Mudavadi, recalling that when Mudavadi was serving as minister for transport, he himself was still in lower primary school. He further noted that shortly after being elected as Saboti MP, he was part of the vetting process that approved Mudavadi to assume the office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.

He urged the Luhya community to reject such leaders, insisting that the region does not lack capable individuals who can provide alternative leadership.
“Mimi nikiwa class one nikiwa miaka tano, Waziri Mudavadi aikuwa Waziri wa transport; sai nimemaliza shule, nimepigiwa kura nikawa mbunge ati Mudavadi anakuja kwangu ati nimvet akuwe cabinet secretary, kwani tumekosa viongozi kama waluhya,” Amisi stated.
According to Amisi, the community continues to grapple with perennial challenges such as poor road networks and underdevelopment, despite its top leaders being well-positioned in government.
Embracing new crop of leaders
He further encouraged the community to rally behind younger leaders like George Natembeya, Edwin Sifuna, himself, and Boni Khalwale, whom he described as the real agents of change. He called on the community to support them in their quest for power and in pushing for genuine transformation.
“Hii jamii ya waluhya itakombolewa number one na Boni Khalwale, Caleb Amisi, Edwin Sifuna, George Natembeya,” he added
He further told them that no one should deceive them that they are in government, since it’s only 2 leaders from the community who are in government, and despite them being there, no meaningful development has being extended to the community.
This comes just a day after Amisi endorsed Senator Khalwale for the 2027 Kakamega gubernatorial seat, praising him as a bold leader who is ready to speak the truth and hold those in power accountable.
